Usage rights
The CIARD RING adopts the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license for the metadata stored in the system.
This means that the metadata about the datasets registered in the RING can be re-used by other systems and in other works provided that the CIARD RING is acknowledged as the source.
Important: the CIARD RING stores and makes publicly accessible only the metadata about the registered datasets. The actual content of the registered datasets and the related methods of access (download, special protocol, queries...) are subject to usage rights established by their owners.
Information on these usage rights for the content of each dataset is provided by the data owner at the moment of registration of the dataset, in the "Access / licensing" field for the whole dataset and with further granularity for each distribution of the dataset in the "Access / licensing" and "License URL" fields of the distribution.
This information provided by the data owner is included in the various XML and RDF responses provided by the RING to queries from applications, so applications are aware of usage rights and should respect them.
Important: metadata that have been imported from other catalogs should contain licensing information for the actual content of the datasets and the related methods of access (download, special protocol, queries...). We rely on the source catalog for this metadata.
